How to remove rust from your cast iron cookware

If you have noticed that your cast iron cookware has rust spots, don’t worry- you can still use it. You will want to scrub the rust off with a steel wool pad in warm, soapy water. Do not put soap directly onto the fry pan, the cast iron may absorb it. You must towel dry. Do not let the cookware air dry, because that is what causes the rust. You will then need to follow the pre-seasoning instructions that is found in the “How-To” section of this blog. You will also want to use a heavier oil such as a regular Olive Oil.

  1. It is so nice to find such great how-to’s, I am a new home buyer and there are a lot of things that I am finding out the hard way in the kitchen, especially with cast iron! Ugh.
