The extreme cold is hard on everyone but it is even worse on the elderly, their health is generally more fragile, so they are not able to withstand the cold for any extended amount of time.

One slip and or fall for an elderly person could result in a broken bone or worse. So, while you are out doing your walks do theirs also. Making sure that steps are cleared off and free of ice. Get your kids involved also – this is a great way to show them how to be helpful and involved.

Your help may be something as simple as getting their mail or newspaper in for them or if they have a bird feeder and they are not able to get out to fill it you could possibly do that for them.

When you have to make a run to the grocery or any kind of errand make a phone call and see if they are in need of anything.

Even those of us who are able to get out and about without too much trouble know what it is like when the weather gets cold and we are not able to get out and socialize as much as we normally do.

Another idea you may want to consider is when you make a pot of soup in a Range Kleen Dutch Oven to take some to someone elderly. A lot of times they do not eat properly as they don’t want the hassle and mess, so this would be a great way to make sure they are getting a good meal.

There are many little things that you can do to help out. Not only will it make you feel good but you will be helping them out also.
