A little something that you might think about when you are on the go: you can use an insulated bottle to keep things hot as well as cool. Not just for drinks, we make wide-mouth food jars in a variety of materials and sizes. The expanded opening is perfect for hot food: stews, curry, stir-fry, pasta… dishes that are easy to cook at home in a single pot are perfect to eat on the go, and the insulation of a food jar will keep them hot and ready. Or, pack a cool dessert like parfait to finish your picnic. You’ll save money, reduce waste in landfills, and you can control the calories!

Have “non-stick” products put your bakeware in a sticky situation?

When using a non-stick pan and your recipe calls for non-stick spray or coating, it is best to not use cooking spray on a non-stick pan. By using the cooking spray on a non-stick pan the spray acts like a glue property. The spray sticks to the non-stick coating on the pan which causes all types of food to stick and creates baked on, hard to get off gunk. The non-stick spray is actually not generated for high-heat use. We do not recommend soaking bakeware pans because it promotes rust.

If you must use some type of extra help for the non-stick purpose try using shortening and flour. Directions: spread shortening inside of pan with a paper towel, be sure to wipe excess out. Sprinkle with flour, shaking pan and rotating around until the flour is covering the inside of the pan and turn upside down over sink to tap excess out.

For cleaning instructions: just use warm soapy water, nothing abrasive, rinse and be sure to wipe pan dry. Do not store while wet or damp.

LONG BEACH – The spill that leaked 12,000 gallons of raw sewage into Spinnaker Bay near Marine Stadium Saturday was caused by grease blockage in a sewer pipe, Long Beach Water Department officials said today.

Four Alamitos Bay beaches – Mother’s Beach, Marine Stadium, Colorado Lagoon and Alamitos Bay – remained closed today while the Health Department tests the water quality.

A backed-up sewage line caused raw sewage to flow from a manhole at the corner of Bellflower Boulevard and Eliot Street directly into Spinnaker Bay late Saturday morning. The actual blockage in the sewer occurred at Loynes Drive and Pacific Coast Highway.

Water Department spokesman Ryan Alsop said grease buildup is a major cause of sewage spills in the city.

With summer upon up, we all need to be careful about the possibility of food poisoning due to the heat. Commutes to work or school or play can be dangerous if you don’t protect your food properly.

This 10 ounce insulated food jar from Range Kleen does the trick. It comes in black, blue, pink tangerine, green and red. It comes complete with a spoon and fork. What is not to love!

Stay safe this summer. The last thing you should be worrying about is getting sick from improperly packaged food.
