This is the season to think of Dad. I know that you are planning for Father’s Day, June 20th . May we suggest a gift that is manly, rugged, time-honored and also useful? Pre-Seasoned Cast Iron is a perfect cookware to go from stovetop to the great outdoors. The pre-seasoning process eliminates the hassle of preparing the iron yourself: seasoning seals the pot and builds a natural non-stick surface. You can cook with our pre-seasoned line right away, and each time you do the season continues to build making the pot better with age.
Prized for it’s heat retention and ability to withstand harsh temperature, cast iron is a time-honored choice for cooking over a campfire. Because cooking oils actually help season the pots, many cast iron chefs frown on washing their cookware with soap and water, preferring instead to thoroughly wipe it clean, or to scour with a bit of coarse salt then wipe clean, eliminating the need to have a faucet and soap with you in the wild. We know dad will like the rough-it-gourmet style of cast iron. Best yet, nothing brings a family together like a great meal: how about a camp out chili with a hot pan of cornbread?

3. If you tried the onion trick and it just quiet didn’t work; an easy way to clean the grill on the inside is to make sure your completely done cooking remove anything burnable out of sight cover with the lid and let the grill cook of what is still stuck on the racks.
After about 5 to 10 minutes turn grill off and take a piece of foil or leftover foil from your prepared hamburger patties and ball it up, then while the grill is still warm carefully use a handy grilling utensil such as tongs to scrape away leftover foods that are stuck on there. There shouldn’t be too much elbow grease that you’ll have to put into doing this. If you wait to long or the next time you plan on grilling, it will take along time to remove.

2. Now it’s time for things to wind down, the party to end and to get things cleaned up.
For tough grease marks or dirt stuck on the outside of your grill try using a little bit of vinegar by pouring a small amount onto a paper towel to help get the job done.
For other stainless steel appliances you can use a very small amount of baby oil to get rid of fingerprints or smudge marks that your hand leaves behind.

As the presidential election draws near, I often find myself pondering several points….how will the economy bounce back ?, will the candidates foreign policies help or hurt us in the world view ? How can Obama cut taxes on 95% of taxpayers when only 63% pay taxes ? What is Sarah Palins favorite food ?

I’m not sure of the first few questions, but I did find where Gov.Palin says she loves her Moose Stew…..

Being the inquisitive sort, I had to find out what goes into Moose Stew. (yeah, I know….moose) . How is it prepared ? Do you use carrots or peas ? Big chunks or shredded moose ? I would like to share a link with you that has a recipe that sounds pretty good to me and I’m sure Gov.Palin would agree. Many thanks to the Alaska Outdoor Journal for publishing this recipe.

I’ll bet it really tastes good cooked in a Range Kleen Cast Iron Dutch Oven….MMMM ! MMMMM! Now thats eatin’ !

Not only is your Range Kleen cast iron one of the best cooking utensils for even heat and maintaining food warmth from oven/stove top to the tabletop, it is also a great picnic vessel for cold items as well. The same way it holds the heat – it helps in maintaining the coolness of the food – which is great when serving in summer heat. There are many ways to use the vessel in cold applications. You can refrigerate the cast iron pan empty overnight in preparation for your cold picnic food. Prepare the food and then remove the cast iron from the refrigerator and fill. You can prepare the food in the cast iron and refrigerate all together. When you remove the food from the refrigerator in the cast iron pan, the food will maintain the cold temperature much longer than plastic picnic bowls and other storage devices. Don’t have time to refrigerate? Simply fill the cast iron pan with ice and water and let it sit up to 15 to 20 minutes. Once it has pan has chilled, empty out the water and ice, dry with a clean towel and add your favorite cold picnic food. Transport to the picnic table and enjoy your refreshingly chilled foods longer than using other transporting and storage containers. Plus, with the added bonus of the weight of the cast iron – you don’t have to worry about it blowing away on windy summer days. Cast Iron . . . a great summertime helper.
